Wedding Planning Tips during COVID-19

Wedding Planning Tips during COVID-19

Jamaica, like the rest of the world, is doing their part to slow the spread of the corona virus within our borders. As we go through this period of uncertainty, our heart goes out to everyone! We want the world to know that we stand together as a collective to push through these trying times and come out on the other end even stronger than before with an even greater desire to celebrate love!

So while we strive to abide by all the guidelines to stopping the spread of this deadly disease, we must remember that life is still moving and so should you. Exercising, eating properly, increasing your daily intake of vitamin C as well as washing our hands (see WHO link for full guidelines: https://www.who.int/news-room/detail/23-03-2020-pass-the-message-five-steps-to-kicking-out-coronavirus ).The entire world is dealing with a time of great uncertainty and the best way to deal with this is taking charge of the things we are sure of. Let us help you to create a plan of action that you can organize in terms of priority for you and just pace yourself through.

If you have already booked your wedding between now and the month of May, your top priority is to focus on getting a new date. Email your wedding planner and ask her to see the best dates for rescheduling with venues in Jamaica. If you are a hotel bride then contact your wedding coordinator and ask them to help you to work through the details of available dates . Find out if you would need to move your wedding to a new location or your current one is available for a new date.

Remember, just as how we are all going through COVID-19 together, find out from RSVP guests how available they are for your new date. Don’t be disappointed if you experience a big decline in your RSVPs as we are all dealing with this disease in one form or the other.

Think of the incentives, for want of a better word! Almost no one is flying now and hotels around the globe are either closed or being used to aid with the fight against the Corona virus. This means that we may see flights and accommodations to your destination may soon become cheaper- Did someone say re work my Budget?! Oh Yes , we did as you may have some serious amount of wiggle room there.

Rework your budget with your partner and your wedding planner if you find this necessary. By this we mean, do small yet significant upgrades, remember that beautiful bridal bouquet that you fell in love with but had to forgo before? Maybe you could get an upgrade to your bouquet or add that steel pan band for cocktail hour. Do not splurge! Keep the reins even enough to have a little wiggle room for areas that you can afford to upgrade or add.

A big part of this time is keeping our mental health in check. People have lost their livelihood, families have lost loved ones, all our movements and plans having to be curtailed or totally wiped out as a result of this pandemic. We should do our best to engage in things that create a balance for our physical and mental health. Put on your favorite music or take the time to listen to music on any platform, maybe even listen to an uplifting or just generally interesting podcast. Binge watch Netflix, play games online or with your immediate family, ensure you at least take one shower per day to boost those feel good hormones.

What about your pinterest vision board for your wedding? Don’t have one yet? Create one! Pinterest is the place for wedding ideas, share the link with your planner and work your way through it. So you’ve created it, then what?! Take the time to rearrange it, zoom in on your exact taste/vision and count these little steps as victories in your wedding planning process.

Jamaica is doing her part in flattening the curve for the spread of COVID-19. We are ensuring that our people are practicing good hygiene, social distancing and just keeping our families safe and happy. For now most hotels are closed and operating with a skeleton staff, our beaches are here and still beautiful, our landscapes are keeping lush and beautiful and just waiting for this to blow over so we can receive you back with open arms to host you and your guest again! Until then, take care, keep safe and healthy and we’ll see you soon!
