The idea of the bride taking a bouquet on her wedding day has its history dating back to the 1600s Dutch, which was later adopted by the Romans, Greeks, Celtics & English. Originally, bouquets were made of aromatic bunches of garlic, herbs & spices & later evolved to include orange blossoms. The original intention of the bride carrying a bouquet down the aisle was to ward off evil spirits, ill health and bad luck. In ancient Rome, brides wore garland or carried bouquets as a sign of new beginnings, fidelity and even fertility. The dawn of the Victorian age saw lovers using the exchange of flowers as a romantic gesture [with each flower having a different meaning] and this tradition naturally resulted in the carrying of the bouquet by the bride.
At Chic-Events, we know bouquets! With our in-house floral specialist, we aim to create the most beautiful & breath-taking bouquets custom-designed for each of our brides. We love hydrangeas, orchids, calla lilies & yellow birds in our bouquets.
Here are four popular bridal bouquets styles:
- Traditionally, the type of bouquet carried by a bride is called a Nosegay. Nosegay is still a popular choice for many brides today. Nosegay literally translates to mean nose ornaments, with the herbs and spices used for their nasal appeal and were usually clutched close to the nose to ward off ill health. It is basically a compact cluster of flowers, wrapped tightly & cut to one uniform length. Nosegay can be made with the use of Hydrangeas.
- The ever-classy Hand-tied bouquet is usually a loosely binding of a dense bunch of flowers tied right above the area where the hand holds the bunch. It is tied with a raffia (the fiber from the leaves of the raffia tree) or a garden string or a string of the bride’s choice. A hand-tied bouquet can be made with calla lilies.
- Cascade bridal bouquet is very popular! This modern and very chic bouquet is waterfall-like that showcases this ‘spill’ of bloom and can be made to look very tropical by adding trailing greenery. It is usually hand-tied or held together in a holder which can also be bedazzled as well. Orchids are a preferred choice for this bouquet style as they naturally grow with lines to get the shape or form desired.
4. A Round bouquet is more of a neater version of the hand-tied bouquet with the tie being done with ribbons. It is neat as it is versatile; any flower can be made into a round bouquet! You can use large and small flowers- the larger flowers can be out (high) while the smaller flowers are in (lower than the large flowers). A bouquet done like this will create dimensions which shows some of its versatility. Roses are always a bride pleaser in a round bouquet.
